Egg farm fined

 Grampians Free Range Poultry Pty Ltd near Navarre has been fined $230,000 in the Country Court after the death of a contractor at the property. 

The 73-year-old Landsborough man was killed at the farm between 1.15pm and 1.30pm on May 30, 2016 following an accident involving heavy machinery. 
County Court Judge Mark Taft passed his sentence upon Grampians Free Range Poultry Pty Ltd on Wednesday morning.
The sentencing hearing followed a plea hearing at the County Court on April 6.
Worksafe investigated the incident back in 2016 before handing the case to Workcover.
According to business records, Grampians Free Range Poultry Pty Ltd was incorporated on July 4, 2014 and has operated as a privately held company until at least March last year.
Australian Securities and Investments Commission records state the company’s office was registered in north-west Melbourne.
